Barbara “Barb” Jean Jensen, 75, of Onawa, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 3, 2023 at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s, Sioux City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor David Alan Godwin, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Barb’s obituary. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, Saturday, July 8, 2023. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Barbara Jean was born June 27, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Kermit and Eleanor “Jean” (Spaugh) Siebrecht. She grew up in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1966. Barb furthered her education at Wayne State College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. From 1969 – 1974 she taught at Lewis Central in Council Bluffs.

Barb and Larry Taylor were married April 14, 1973 in Odebolt, Iowa. They moved to Onawa where she worked at Lewis and Clark-Blue Lake in the DNR office. She also substituted during this time at West Monona. To this union two children were born, Susanna and Amelia. Larry passed away February 7, 1992.

Barb and James “Jim” Jensen were married March 3, 1995 in Onawa, Iowa. Barb taught many years at West Monona as an elementary teacher until her retirement in 2010. After her retirement she substituted for several years.

Barb enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed watching all sports, especially Huskers volleyball, wearing fancy clothes and jewelry, and tending to her flowers. Barb was a member of the P.E.O., Eastern Star, and Rainbow. She was also a member of the Onawa United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jim “Farmer” Jensen of Onawa, Iowa; children, Susanna “Susie” (Ryan Papenfuss) Taylor of Omaha, Nebraska, Amelia “Amy” (Clinton) Walker of Turin, Iowa, Laura “Laurie” (Brent) Streck of Mapleton, Iowa, and David (Sheri) Jensen of Castana, Iowa; grandchildren, Hunter (fiancé, Makenzie Struble) Davis of Whiting, Iowa, Elisa Davis of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Elijah Horton of Omaha, Nebraska, Belle Walker, Noah Walker, and Noelle Walker all of Turin, Iowa, Ethan Streck, Wyatt Streck, and Natalie Streck all of Mapleton, Iowa, Bradley Jensen, Haley Jensen, and Austin Jensen all of Castana, Iowa; sister, Rebecca (Mike) Carstensen of Schaller, Iowa; brother, Alan (Pat) Siebrecht of Ida Grove, Iowa; and sister, Rita (Steve) Jensen of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Jean (Spaugh) Siebrecht; husband, Larry Taylor; sister, Margaret Siebrecht; and two nephews, Benjamin Pepper, and Adam Carstensen.
