MAPLETON, Iowa - John H. Petit Jr., 86, of Mapleton, died June 5 in a Mapleton nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. June 8 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto. The Rev. Walter Bruch will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Danbury. A Rosary will be at 8 p.m. June 7 in the Walter Funeral Home in Anthon. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Henry McKenna American Legion Post No. 651.

Mr. Petit was born April 5, 1890 in Battle Creek. He married Ethel Welty on Nov. 23, 1920 in Danbury. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Flandreau, S.D., where they lived for two years. They then farmed in the Danbury, Anthon, Oto and Correctionville areas. They moved in to Oto in 1955. She died in 1971.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Henry McKenna Post No. 651 of the American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Marion) Leander of Ottumwa; a son, Vernon of Bronson, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
