Cora Ann Fouts, 89, of Hinton, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Arbor Care Center, Hartington, Nebraska.

A memorial service will be 9:00 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Hinton United Methodist Church, Hinton, Iowa, with Pastor Beth Odor, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Cora Ann’s obituary. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Cora Ann Fouts was born January 31, 1934, in Onawa, Iowa, to Raymond and Lucy (Rold) Fouts.

Cora Ann attended Onawa Public School all her years except from November 1944 to September 1946. During this period, she attended school in Inglewood, California; South San Francisco, California; San Mateo, California; and San Diego, California. Her father was in the horse racing business and went to California, because a ban on horse racing was enforced in the United States of America during World War II. Her Dad raced horses in Tijuana, Mexico, on Sundays. Cora Ann graduated from Onawa High School in May of 1952. After graduation, she attended Commercial Extension of Business in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed the secretarial course in June 1953.

On December 27, 1952, Cora Ann married Bob Burgess and to this union two daughters were born, Kim Marie and Kris Michele. In 1973 Cora Ann and Bob divorced. After a second divorce Cora Ann married Joe Ray Simpson in 1976, and resided in Tarkio, Missouri, for twenty-six years before she returned to Nebraska and Iowa in 2002.

In 1953 Cora Ann’s first job was with Green Gables in Onawa as a secretary. As time passed, she held other jobs such as working in the Monona County Treasurer’s Office, co-owner of Fouts Drive Inn in 1964, and People Natural Gas in 1969 in Onawa, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska. After moving to Missouri, Cora Ann worked on the family farm and in 1985 went to work at the Atchison County FSA in Rock Port, Missouri, until her retirement in December of 1999.

In 2002 Cora Ann moved to Hartington, Nebraska, where oldest daughter Kim lived. Cora Ann resided in Hartington for ten years. She met Jim Stanton, her soul mate, in July of 2008 and went to live with Jim in 2012.

Cora Ann is survived by her soul mate, Jim Stanton of Hinton, Iowa; two daughters, Kim (Dareld) Hively of Hartington, Nebraska, and Kris (Tony) Holliday of Elbert, Colorado; six grandchildren, Rob (Amber) Rothe of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeff Rothe (Alan Stob) of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Craig Hively of Kokomo, Indiana, Travis (Bridget) Hively of Yankton, South Dakota, Aaron (Tracey) Holliday of Columbus, Nebraska, and David Holliday of Elbert, Colorado; seven great-grandchildren, Oliver, Porter, and Lucy Rothe, Abbigail and Trevor Hively, Matthew Hively, and Kyrie Holliday; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lucy (Rold) Fouts; brothers, Ray Fouts, Jr., and Roger Fouts; sisters, Mildred Watson, and Doris Nelson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Fouts; and brothers-in-law, Karl Nelson, and Richard Watson.
