W. A. SIMM0NS, MAPLETON, DIES

Was Town's Oldest Resident; Served as Postmaster

W. A. Simmons, 78, oldest resident of Mapleton, la, and for many years postmaster there, died this morning, in a hospital here following a brief illness. For the last 45 years, he had been engaged in the mercantile business in Mapleton.

Born in Woodbine, la, July 21, 1865, he went as a child with bis parents to the Mapleton locality.

When Mapleton was laid out, his father became the towns first postmaster.

He married Bessie Evans in 1890. She died in 1937.

Survivors include a son, Forrest of Mapleton; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Butler of Beverly Hills, Cal, and Mrs. John' Buckio of Norfolk, Neb, a brother-in-law, Ward R. Evans and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edgar A. Smith, both of Sioux City, and a grandson, William Forrest Simmons, stationed at San Antonio, Tex.

The Larkin funeral home has charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for W. A Simmons, 78, longtime Mapleton, Ia., merchant, who died Tuesday in a hospital here, will be held at 2 p. m. Friday in Larkin's chapel. Interment Will be in Graceland Park cemetery.

Rev. Mr. Osbrn, Methodist pastor at Mapleton, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mapleton businessmen.

Mr. Simmons was for many years Mapleton's postmaster. His father was the town's first postmaster.

Mr. Simmons was born in Woodbine, Ia., July 21, 1865. He spent his childhood in the Mapleton locality. He and Bessie Evans were married in 1890. She died in 1937.
