Carolyn D. Westergaard, 95, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa (rural Sloan, Iowa) with Pastor Craig Bock, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Carolyn’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. A visitation will be 9:00 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Carolyn Dorothy was born May 4, 1927 in Onawa, Iowa the daughter of Harold and Mabel (Martin) Reese. Carolyn’s dad was a Flight Trainer during WW II so they moved around to different places including Texas, Des Moines, and then moved to Onawa, Iowa. She graduated from Onawa High School with the class of 1945. Carolyn worked in the Clerk of Court office in Onawa where she met her husband, August “Augie” Westergaard.

Carolyn and Augie were united into marriage June 11, 1950 in Onawa. They made their home and raised their four sons in rural Whiting and Sloan. Carolyn was a great mother to all of her family. She was known to be the “Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Maker”. Carolyn enjoyed taking the boys to lots of ball games.

Carolyn enjoyed bowling, crocheting, golfing, and was very proud to be the only one in the family that made a “Hole In One”. She was an avid reader and an avid Hawkeye Fan. Carolyn was a member of the D.A.R., Toastmasters, Whiting Library, and a board member on the Burgess Foundation. She was also the treasurer of the Sloan Golf Course, and a member of the Skien Lutheran Church and chairperson on the Ladies Aide.

Survivors include her children, Lee (Vickie) Westergaard of Sloan, Iowa, James (Kathy) Westergaard of Mapleton, Iowa, and Mark (Becky) Westergaard of Whiting, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Allison (John) Dirksen, Kristen (Michael) Bladt, Kelly Westergaard, Kari Stewart, David (Nicole) Westergaard, Doug Westergaard, and Makenzie Struble; nine great-grandchildren, Karissa, Destiny, and Sadie Stewart, Daitin and Palmer Westergaard, Theo and Hugh Dirksen, and Weston and Deacon Bladt.; two nephews, John Reese, and Todd Reese; and several other family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mabel (Martin) Reese; husband, Augie Westergaard; son, Kent Westergaard; brother, Harold “Jug” Reese; granddaughter, Adrienne Westergaard; and great-grandsons, Logan and Dean Bladt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Carolyn’s memory to the Burgess Foundation, Whiting Library, or Skien Lutheran Church.
