La Jeanne Lillian Ketelsen, 91, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Turin, Iowa, passed Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, Iowa.

A memorial service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with La Jeanne’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

La Jeanne Lillian Ketelsen was born March 27, 1931 in Mapleton, Iowa to John and Lillie (Kuhlmann) Rohde. She grew up in the Ute, Mapleton, and Castana area. She prided herself as a tomboy, she loved the outdoors and the simple life on the farm as a child and all the way into adulthood. She went to school in Castana and graduated with the class of 1949.

La Jeanne met the love of her life Elvin Ketelsen, they were married July 4, 1949 in Charter Oak, Iowa. She made a home on a farm outside of Turin, Iowa, where she became a full-time mother raising six children.

La Jeanne helped with the farm work, hoed beans in the summer, and even found time to volunteer as a tour guide for the Loess Hills. Her quiet time hobbies were cross stitch, embroidery, quilting, and sudoku. La Jeanne enjoyed friendships with all her neighbors and would be ready with a fresh pot of coffee for anyone who would stop in to chat.

Family was the most important part of La Jeanne’s life. She spent her weekends with family playing cards, dominoes, and sharing family meals. She enjoyed traveling, exploring, and learning about the world around her.

She is survived by her six children, Lynn Ketelsen and wife Sheri, Kevin Ketelsen and wife Barbara, Kim Ketelsen and wife Peg, Marva Ketelsen, Mark Ketelsen and wife Holly, and Brenda Yarnell; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sherry Ketelsen.

La Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Ketelsen; her parents, John and Lillie Rohde; sister-in-law, Rosemary Anderson; brother-in-law, Henry Ketelsen and his wife Colleen; brother-in-law, Darrell Ketelsen; and son-in-law, Randy Yarnell.
