Mrs. Bertha Olson, Long Time Whiting Resident, Dies at 89

Onawa, la. Special: A resident of Monona County for 67 years, Mrs. Bertha M. Olson, 89, died Monday in a hospital here. Born at Strandvik, Norway, April 17, 1856, Mrs. Olson came with her parents to the United States when 12 years old. In 1879 she came to the Whiting community and there and in that year was married to Hans Olson, who has been a 70-year resident there. Mrs. Olson was a member of the Lutheran church and had attended the Whiting Methodist church.

Mr. Olson was severely burned at his home about a week ago and still is confined to the Onawa hospital, where his condition Monday was reported as "fair."

Survivors of Mrs. Olson include a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Borsheim of Whiting: a son, Bert of Carlsbad, Cal.; a half-sister, Mrs. Anna Arveson of Whiting: six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The body was taken to the Pearson funeral home here. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Funeral Services Will Be Friday

Onawa. Ia. Special: Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Olson, 89, a Monona County resident for 67 years, who died Monday, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Friday in the Methodist church at Whiting. Rev. Nels Preus and Rev. T. A. Thompson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Whiting cemetery under the direction of the Pearson funeral home of Onawa.

Hans Olson, widower of Mrs. Olson, who suffered severe burns about a week ago, remained in "only fair" condition at an Onawa hospital, it was reported Wednesday night.
