Darlene Louise Kruse, 82, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the Faith Bible Church, Mapleton, Iowa with Pastor Travis Kaufman, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Darlene’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa, overlooking the house she was born in. A visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Darlene Louise was born July 14, 1939 at home in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Harold Nels and Ruby Evelyn (Diddy) Johnson. She moved around a lot between Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska as a child. She attended school in Castana, Iowa, Waterbury, Nebraska, and graduated from Soldier, Iowa in 1957.

She was a head cook at Eagles Club in South Sioux City, Nebraska from 1982-1986. Darlene Johnson and Byron Duane Kruse were united into marriage October 16, 1988 in Mapleton, Iowa.

Darlene had a great sense of humor and had her own style. She enjoyed second hand shopping, square dancing, and cleaning other people’s houses. Darlene was great at cooking, sewing, and cake decorating. She was a care taker for the elderly and volunteered for Red Cross.

She was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Mapleton.

Survivors include her husband, Byron Kruse of Mapleton, Iowa; her children, Lowell Davis of Westfield, Iowa, Nancy (George) Weddle of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Keith Davis of Mitchell, South Dakota, Deanna (Steve) Peterson of Bancroft, Nebraska, and Janelle (Fred) Scoville, of Dakota City, Nebraska; grandchildren, Rebecca Kephart, Autumn (Zach) Mahaffey, Jonathon (Ashley) Lacy, Derek (Liz) Lacy, Tiffany (Jesse) Raabe, Kimberly (Joseph) Aschoff, Alex Peterson, Spencer and Marlee Scoville, and Daniel (Danielle) Weddle; great-grandchildren, William Mahaffey, Mylee and Weston Lacy, Vinny and Callie Lacy, Kayelee, Bentley, and Oakley Raabe, Mason and Cameron Aschoff, Malachi Weddle, Britanya, Landon, and Marcus; brother, Dale (Cynthia) Johnson; brother-in-law, Vernon (Nancy) Kruse; two sisters-in-law, Rita Dickmyer and Kathy Johnson; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruby (Diddy) Johnson; brother, Don Johnson; granddaughter, Ariel Weddle; and sister-in-law, Sandy (Junior) Watson.
