Rockwell City – Bette Joan Lund DeLance Gran 87, formerly of Soldier, Iowa and Moorhead, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, Lake City. Her wishes were to have no services. Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family. Memorials may be left to Moorhead Fire & Rescue, 110 Oak St. Moorhead, IA 51558, or to the discretion of the family.

Bette Jo is survived by her children, Pamela (K.C.) Feldbauer of Rockwell City, Scott (Cindy) DeLance of Rockwell City, Tim DeLance of Early, and Bradley (Nancy) DeLance of Moorhead; grandchildren, Bryan Holt (Joan Berg), Kandi (Mike) Berner and Brandon (Tiffany) Holt; Shawn (Sierra) DeLance and Travis (Melissa) DeLance; Amber (Jake) Robertson, Ashlee (Paul) Solarczyk, Aden DeLance and Brittany (Jeff) Storm; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Gavin Holt, Tucker Berner and Sydney Holt; Kaitlin and Chloe Stevens; Daklyn and Zayne DeLance; Lincoln, Maren and Hudson DeLance; Taylor and Tegan Robertson; and Jocelyn Storm; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Roger DeLance; her second husband Merrill Gran; her parents, Kenneth and Clara (Olson) Lund; sister Constance Louise; stepfather Paul Larson; and her companion for six years, Earl Hartman.

Bette Joan Lund was born January 6, 1935 at Sioux City, Iowa. Bette Jo lived in Moorhead, Iowa, moving to Salem, Oregon in 1941 before returning to Moorhead in 1949. She graduated from Moorhead High School, with the Class of 1953. On December 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Roger DeLance. The couple lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina while her husband served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. In 1956, they established their home on the DeLance Family Farm. In 1977, the family moved to Soldier, Iowa to the Lund Family Home which was built by Bette Jo’s great-grandparents that migrated from Norway in the 1800’s. Roger passed away from a diabetic stroke on January 2, 1986 and his ashes were scattered on the Lund Family Farm. On December 21, 1986, Bette Jo married Merrill E. Gran at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier. Merrill’s four children, Patty, Becky, Teri and Jim with Bette’s four children, Pam, Scott, Tim and Brad all stood up with them. The couple enjoyed wintering in Arizona and did extensive traveling visiting their eight children. They also traveled to Hawaii, the Netherlands, and a cruise to the Southeast Asia. Merrill passed away on January 21, 2002. In 2007, Bette Jo moved to Rockwell City to be close to her family.
