Robert Louis Stanislav was born on November 22, 1937, near Blencoe, Iowa to Louis V. and Mary M. (Pokorny) Stanislav. Bob was the youngest of four children, with the older ones all being girls. His sisters, especially Darlene and Marjorie, helped to raise him, while he and Phyllis spent many years playing together and working side-by-side on the farm. As a result, they were all very close and he always considered them not only siblings, but life-long friends. He attended country school and then graduated from Onawa High School in 1955. Bob furthered his education at Creighton, Wayne State and Iowa State. He then joined the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Bob started working for the State of Iowa, Department of Transportation Road Crew. Bob married Karon Stewart on January 3, 1970, at the St. John Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa. In the early 1970’s, Bob opened an ice cream shop next door to Karon’s salon in Woodbine and that developed into a long-time Woodbine business, Bob’s Café. The café was known for their hot beef sandwiches and he credited much of the success of the business to his great employees. Bob also drove a school bus and worked at John Deere in Woodbine. He was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine, where he served for many years as a reader and eucharistic minister.

Bob loved to golf, fish and duck hunt. He also enjoyed swimming and playing cards. He and his employees would always have fun participating in “Crazy Days” in Woodbine. Bob would never miss an episode of “The Price Is Right” and also loved watching “Jeopardy”. Bob was very interested in flying and even took flying lessons. Bob served the City of Woodbine through the Library Board and Kiwanis. More than anything, Bob cherished his time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Bob died on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, nine months and 20 days.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Ellis; brothers-in-law, Dr. Alvaro Camacho, Wayne Parks and Dale Ellis; nephew, Donald Parks; and parents-in-law, Robert and Wyonetta Stewart.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karon Stanislav of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter, Sara Finn of Slater, Iowa; son, Andrew and his wife Deborah Stanislav of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Phyllis Camacho of Memphis, Tennessee and Marjorie Parks of Whiting, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

MEMORIAL DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO THE SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH IN WOODBINE OR THE WOODBINE FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT.
