Duane Fredrickson, 87, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa with Lay Servant Anthony Bainbridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Gerald Duane was born December 22, 1933 in Little Sioux, Iowa the son of Herald Marion and Bessie Mildred (Hansen) Fredrickson. He was raised on the family farm. He attended country school till the 6th grade. Duane graduated from Castana High School in 1952. After working two years, Duane enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from October 21, 1954 – October 20, 1956. He served with the 485th AAA Missile Battalion and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He then went on to college at Iowa State University majoring in Agricultural Business and graduating in 1960.

Duane and Judith “Judy” Ann Overholser were united into marriage December 28, 1960 in Marshalltown, Iowa. To this union three children were born, David Duane, Alice Marie, and Linda Kay. The couple moved to Cherokee and he worked for the soil conservation service. In 1963, the family moved back to the family farm where he continued his lifelong passion of farming. He gradually slowed down over the years but never gave up his love of farming. Judy passed away August 2, 2009. Duane had many friends and enjoyed visiting with them over a cup of coffee.

He enjoyed reading, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Duane took the family camping and boating. The family spent many hours playing baseball in the backyard with neighbor kids. He served thirty years on the Monona County Mutual Insurance Board, and thirty years on the Monona County Fair Board. He was also recognized as a seven gallon blood donor.

He was a member and faithful supporter of the Turin United Methodist Church, Turin, Iowa.

Survivors include his children, David (Lynn) Fredrickson of Onawa, Iowa, Alice (Dennis) Parr of Onawa, Iowa, and Linda (Marvin, Jr.) Cole of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer Parr, Curtis (Shelbi) Parr, Justin Parr, Jeremy (Fiancé River Wait) Parr, Christopher (Hannah Perry) Parr, Adam (Jenna Handbury) Parr, Michele (Fiancé Jacob Lee) Fredrickson, Alex Fredrickson, Amber Cole, and Eric (Amanda) Cole; one great-grandchild, Barrett Parr; one sister, Doris (Wilfred) Werning of Van Horne, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith “Judy” Ann (Overholser) Fredrickson; parents, Herald Marion and Bessie Mildred (Hansen) Fredrickson; and parents-in-law, Carlton Wayne and Judith Louise (Clayton) Overholser.
