Aloha Mae South 1934 - 2021

Aloha Mae South, 87, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

Per Aloha’s wishes, cremation has occurred. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Aloha Mae was born January 7, 1934 in Onawa, Iowa the daughter of Jacob Virgil Dewey and Nellie Irene (Kaehlar) Wyland. She grew up in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1953.

Aloha married Dennis Eugene South April 2, 1957 at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple lived in the Onawa and Castana areas where they farmed. Dennis Eugene South passed away August 1, 2004 in Onawa, Iowa. Aloha was a Nurses Aid at the Onawa hospital for many years.

She wrote poetry, loved going to garage sales, and cooking. She enjoyed taking care of her family, and all the kids around by providing them food and a place to stay.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Wayne (Karen) of Castana, Iowa and Jason Lynn (Stacy Blochlinger) of Onawa, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Dennis Andrew (Sara), Katherine Louise (Alex) Young, Zachary Lynn, Zoe Ray, Jessica Ann, Virginia Marie, Sarah Lynn and Jacob Russell; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Arvilla (Leo) Altemier of Grinnell, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Nellie (Kaehlar) Wyland; her husband, Dennis South; two infant sons, Richard Eugene and Darrell LeRoy; and five brothers, Virgil Wyland, Leo Wyland, Vernon Wyland, Rex Wyland, and Wayne Wyland.
