Onawa Iowa Democrat February 19, 1920

Jefferson Selby was born in Seneca country, Ohio in 1847. When he was eight years old the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in 1874 to Crawford County, Iowa. Nine years ago he came to Onawa and has since lived with his brother Jasper Newton Selby. He received a hurt in childhood, and since that time always preferred to be alone, nevertheless, in his own way he was industrious and helpful about the house and in the care of horses. He why would notice things at home which needed doing, and would do them; he would coax the squirrels to play and eat from his hands. He was been a familiar sight coming and going upon the street. A week ago he was stricken with influenza, but at the others in the family were sick he hesitated upon bringing in water and coal until Sunday night. He died Wednesday, February 11,1920 and was buried Thursday, February 12, Rev. Treat of Congregational Church conducting the service.
