Charles R. Parr

Charles R. “Charlie“ Parr, Onawa, died Monday, August 14, 1989, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa. Death came at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 11 days.

He was born in Onawa, May 3, 1912, to Amos S. and Mabel (Ingram) Parr. He married Flossie McCall on November 17, 1936 in Logan. She died March 13, 1947, in Sioux City. On August 10, 1951, he married Louise Peterson in Dakota City. He farmed at Castana until 1976 and then moved to Ottawa where he worked for the Parks Department of the City of Onawa for seven years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church In Onawa .

Survivors include his wife, Louise of Onawa, four sons, Paul Parr of Mitchell, S. D., Jack Parr of Castana, Larry Parr of Smithland, and LeRoy Peterson of Maple Heights, Ohio , three daughters Mrs. Don (Bernice) Link of El Paso, Texas, Mrs. Jerry (Roberta) O’Dell of Sioux Falls, S. D., and Mrs. Jack (Bonnie) Carlson of Ute, Ia., a brother Ivan Parr of Neliegh, Neb., thirty-two grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a grandson, his parents, and three brothers.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 1989, at First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Bryan Myers and Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, accompanied Ponce Peterson in the selection “The Old Rugged Cross“ and an Mrs. Fred Gibson in the selection “One By One” .

Active bearers were Chadd Parr, Jason O’Dell, Kevin Parr, Kenneth Link, Buddy Huntley and Clint Parr.

Honorary bearers were Mike Parr, Travis Parr, Jerry Link, Jim Phipps, Rick Phipps, Keith Parr, Kevin Peterson, Paul Parr II, Michael Parr, Eugene Link, Pat Phipps, Russ Phipps, Chuck Link, and Mike Phipps

Interment was at Grant Township Cemetery at Rodney, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
