PIONEER CITIZEN OF MAPLETON DEAD
ROBERT HORNBY, A RESIDENT OF MAPLETON FOR 38 YEARS PASSES ON.

Funeral Service Were Conducted From his Home in Mapleton on Sunday Afternoon by Rev Hanby of the St. John's Episcopal Church.

Mapleton and the east side of the county lost one of their old time citizens in the death of Robert Hornby which occurred at his home in Mapleton on last Saturday.

Mr. Hornby was born in England on January 25, 1847 and when he was but three years old his parents moved to Canada and during the year of 1881 removed to the United States. After residing in the northern tier of states they moved to Montgomery county, Ia., In 1872 he was married to Mary Larrington and to this union was born two children, Mrs. S. B. Smith, of Mapleton and Wilbur Hornby of Mapleton. During the year of 1877. Mrs. Hornby was called to the beyond. Two years later Mr. Hornby was again married to Miss Eliza Wolfe who now with the two children are left to mourn the death of a loving and kind husband and father. It was during the year of 1882 when Mr. Hornby first stepped foot on Monona county soil settling at a point near Mapleton where he continued to live until the time that he was moved into to town. He was a man who was respected and liked by all that knew him.

Mr. Hornby is survived by five brother and three sisters, Thomas Hornby of Elliott, Iowa: William, Harry Edwin Hornby, who all reside in Nebraska. His sisters are Mrs. Naugerts, of Kansas, and the Misses Hope and Elsie Hornby of Nebraska

The funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased on Last Sunday afternoon at three o'clock conducted by his pastor Rev. Mr. Handy of the St. John’s Episcopal church and his remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
