Bernard Lyle Farber, 88, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021 at his residence in Onawa, Iowa.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. The music selection will be “The Old Rugged Cross”-with Darren Goslar-Soloist. Casket Bearers will be Steve Hiller, Dave Fender, Zach Johnson, Troy Tadlock, Chase Fender, and Steve Fister. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Bernard Lyle Farber was born June 13, 1932 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Clay and Mabel (Maxwell) Farber.

He attended school in Turin, Onawa, and Castana before joining the Army National Guard and was activated into the Korean Conflict on September 11, 1950. He was honorably discharged on June 20, 1952 and completed his high school education in Castana, Iowa. He attended the Sioux City Barber College and began barbering in Onawa in 1954.

Bernard and Phyllis Fors were united in marriage on April 26, 1955 in Vermillion, South Dakota. The couple then made their home in Onawa, where they raised their two daughters, Kathy and Joan.

Bernard was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. A fifty-year member of the Onawa Eagles Lodge in Onawa, Iowa, a fifty-year member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a fifty-year member of the Vesper Masonic Lodge #223, A.F. & A.M. in Onawa, Iowa, and a member of the Sioux City Consistory and the Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City, Iowa. He was Past President of the Onawa Eagles Lodge in Onawa and a Past Master of the Vesper Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Farber of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters, Kathy and her husband Dave Fender of Onawa, Iowa, and Joan and her husband, Steve Hiller of Onawa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jessica (Troy) Tadlock, Jennifer (Zach) Johnson, Chase Fender, and Cheyenne Fender; five great-grandchildren, Cael Tadlock, Clay Tadlock, Jacey Tadlock, Karley Tadlock, and Remi Lynn Johnson; and sister-in-law, Donna Farber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Mabel Farber; sister, Yvonne Parks-Sick; and brother, Howard Farber.
