Leona Elaine Wilson
Leona Elaine Wilson daughter of John and Bertha Hansen was born November 19, 1902 near Blencoe, in Franklin Township. As a small girl she lived with her parents in the Blencoe and Onawa vicinities. On April 19, 1922 Leona was married to Oliver Wilson, at Onawa. They were the parents of 4 daughters and 3 sons. During their married life they farmed in the Onawa, Castana, Smithland and Grant Center communities, last farming near Castana. Following the death of her husband in 1964 she moved to Correctionville near her daughter Argene.
She departed this life on Friday, March 19, 1971 at a Sioux City hospital, having reached the age of 68 years 3 months and 20 days. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Crawford, Merrill, Iowa; Mrs. Clarence (Marjorie) Lorenzen, oh no Iowa; Mrs. Larry (Argene) Meyer, Correctionville, Iowa; 2 sons Eugene, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota; Richard, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; 21 grand-children , 9 great grand-children; 4 sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, Storm Lake Iowa; Mrs. Marion (Marvin) McCall, Castana, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Knuckle, Richmond, California; Mrs. Dorothy (Harry) Wilson, Ontario, California; and 3 brothers Andrew Hanson, Dublin, California; Leroy Hanson, Oakland, California; and John Hanson, Onawa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by 1 son, 1 daughter, her husband and 1 sister.
Services were held Monday, March 22, at the Walter Chapel Mapleton at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Everett Epperson officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Hazel Bruning, organist. Casket bears were Leonard Gotto, Gilbert Gotto, Rolla Brink, Robert Heath, Clarence McCars (?) and Richard Kirchner. Internment was in the Jordan Cemetery near Castana, Iowa under the direction of the Walter Funeral Service.
