Karen J. Krula, 79, of Blencoe, Iowa passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
No funeral or memorial services are being planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Karen Jean was born on March 9, 1942 in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Hyatt) Hopkins.
She married Joseph "Joe" James Krula Jr. on July 23, 1966 in New Hampshire and lived in Millbury, Mass. In 1972, the couple moved to Karen's home state of Iowa to raise their children.
Karen invested every ounce of her passion into whatever sparked her interest. Her love for bowling transpired to a life-long hobby and career with the Iowa Women's Bowling Association (IWBA). Karen was elected to the board in 1980 and served as the association's secretary-treasurer. She was also elected as the Vice President of the Iowa Bowling Council, a youth scholarship program. Karen was inducted into the IWBA's Hall of Fame in 2006. Following her retirement with the IWBA in 2009, Karen enjoyed mastering the art of quilting and creating cherished gifts for her family and loved ones. She was an award-winning quilter.
Karen will always be known for her quick-witted personality and her ability to bring humor to any situation. Karen had a way of making any event into an exciting adventure. She was musically talented and could play a tune on just about any instrument. Karen loved to travel, be of good company, and leave an everlasting impression on those around her. She will be missed with tears but will be remembered with plenty of smiles and laughter.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph J. Krula Jr.; two sons, William "Bill" Krula of Le Mars and Joseph Krula III and his wife, Patricia of Diamondhead, Miss.; one granddaughter, Alexandra "Lexi" Krula and her partner Justin; six grandsons, Chris (Gaby) Lopez, Danny (Paty) Lopez, Michael (Tammy) Lopez, David (Tere) Lopez, Joseph Krula IV, and Matthew Krula; and eight great-grandchildren, Joselin, Christopher, Isabella, Jasmine, Leila, Benjamin, Abigail (Lopez), and Landon Krula.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASCPA) or to a local Veterans' organization of your choice.
