HORNICK, Iowa - Alton Metcalf, 78, of Hornick died Sunday in a nursing home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Hornick Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary DeGeest will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs: There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today in the Wood Funeral Home at Sloan.

Mr. Metcalf was born Nov. 19, 1905, in Holly Springs. He married Hazel Piercy Aug. 2, 1926, in Sioux City. He was a foreman for 35 years for the Woodbury County Highway Maintenance, retired in 1976. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Metcalf served on the Hornick Town Council for 14 years.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Dwight of Turin; one brother, Austin of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Celia Herrington of Mapleton and two grandchildren.
