Rose Marie Kirby, 91, of Whiting, IA, and formerly of Omaha, NE, passed away Sunday evening, November 15, 2020 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, IA with family at her side.

Rose Marie was born February 2, 1929 in Early, Iowa the daughter of Carl W. and Madeline C. (Koewler) Lenz. She graduated from Early High School in 1947.

She worked many years for AT & T as a telephone operator. When she retired, she enjoyed eating lunch and socializing with her retired friends from AT & T. She loved to quilt, sew, make porcelain dolls, and canned many fruits and vegetables. Rose Marie was known as a good cook.

Rose Marie was a member of the St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa and also a member of the St. James Church, Omaha, Nebraska.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Amy) Kirby of Temecula, CA, Mark (Heidi) Kirby of Belton, MO, Dana (Beth) Kirby of Whiting, Iowa, Francis Kirby of Rose Hill, KS, Martin Kirby of Rose Hill, KS; her daughters, Pat (Mike) Oehler of Missouri Valley, IA, Kathy Kirby of Omaha, NE, Gale Kirby of Littleton, CO, Mary Kirby of Denver, CO, and Faith (Steve) Baumhover of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Suzi Kirby of Omaha, NE; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl W. Lenz and Madeline C. (Koewler) Lenz; sisters, Patricia Graff and Marlene Lenz; brother, Carl “Bill” Lenz, Jr.; husbands, James Phillips and Raymond Kirby; son, Thomas Kirby; and granddaughter, Christina Rose Kirby.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 20, 2020 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, IA with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. (Social distancing measures must be followed- Due to Covid-19 restrictions- Masks are required for the visitation and service.) Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Missouri Valley, IA. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 20, 2020 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, IA.

In lieu of flowers, suggested are memorials in Rose Marie’s name to St. John Catholic Church, 1009 13th Street, Onawa, IA, 51040 and St. James Church, 4710 N 90th Street, Omaha, NE 68134.
