7 October 2020Virginia Shirley Turner, 93, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Graveside Services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2020 at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Virginia Shirley Zortman was born November 6, 1926 in Blencoe, Iowa the daughter of Sherman and Augusta (Pierson) Zortman. She grew up in Blencoe and graduated from Blencoe High School in 1944.
Virginia Shirley (Zortman) and Clifford Earl Turner were united into marriage on April 2, 1946 in Onawa, Iowa. To this union two children were born.
She was employed at West Monona in Onawa, Iowa as a custodian where she later retired. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Shirley enjoyed bowling, traveling, and fishing. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Onawa Eagles Club, and the local Card Club. Shirley enjoyed music and playing the organ at home.
Shirley was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Kay Turner, of Onawa, Iowa; her grandchildren, Donald W. (Fiancé Tracy Walbert) Turner of Sioux City, Iowa and Brian P. Anderson of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Brandon J. Turner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Anthony W. Turner of Sioux City, Iowa, Ethan (Alexis) Turner of Sioux City, Iowa, and Eleanor E. Rhoades of Yankton, South Dakota; great-great-grandchildren, Annika and Dominic Turner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Earl Turner; her parents, Sherman and Augusta (Pierson) Zortman; two brothers, David Zortman and Charles Zortman; one sister, Winifred Birk; and her son, Daniel Turner.
