William “Bill” McGuire 1937 - 2020

William “Bill” McGuire, 82, of Moorhead, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his residence.

A private family service will be held at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Bill was born October 17, 1937 to Doris and William McGuire. Bill had one brother, Bob. He grew up in Perry, Iowa. His father passed away when Bill was 13 years old. From then on, our Bill has been taking care of everyone. Family has been the most important thing in Bill’s life. He loved spending time with all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was so proud of his family.

Bill and his family moved to Moorhead when he was to be a junior in high school. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1956.

Bill married Sue Hoffman on October 26, 1957. Bill and Sue had two children, Brenda and Bill.

Bill served with the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned, he went to work with the Iowa Department of Transportation in the Right of Way Department in Ames, Iowa. He continued to work for the State of Iowa until his retirement in 2000. Bill had been a faithful employee for thirty-seven years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sue of Moorhead, Iowa; daughter, Brenda (Jim) Gran of Soldier, Iowa; son, Bill (Kelli) McGuire of Williamsburg, Iowa; four grandsons, Josh (Carrie) Gran, Jeremy (Laci) Gran, Patrick McGuire, Sam McGuire; one granddaughter, Jordan Gran; five great-grandchildren, Brandt, Madalyn, Elizabeth, Alexa, and Lane; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Hoffman and Geraldine Moeller.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and William McGuire; maternal and paternal grandparents; brother, Bob; two sisters-in-law, June (Norman) Lee and Virgie (Junior) Kennedy; and one brother-in-law, Ray Hoffman.
