CASTANA, Iowa -- Donna Mae Payne, 74, of Castana died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Castana Community Church in Castana, with Pastor Harvey Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery at Castana. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Donna Mae was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond John and Frieda Olga (Weifenbach) Kurth. She was raised and attended school at Mapleton.

Donna Mae and William Dean Payne were united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1950, at Mapleton. The couple had lived in Castana the past 47 years. She was employed at Moss Custodial Home in Onawa, Lanny's in Mapleton and Danbury, Iowa, and Straight Inn in Soldier, Iowa.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. She enjoyed playing bingo and was very dedicated to her family.

Survivors include her husband, William Dean Sr. of Castana; three daughters and their husbands, Barb and Troy Allen of Castana, Sandra and David Behrendsen of Mesa, Ariz., and Darla and Chad Polkinghorn of Copperas Cove, Texas; four sons, Jerry and his wife, Deb of Ida Grove, Iowa, Russell of York, Neb., Larry of York, and Bill and his wife, Christi Payne of York; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and a brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and a son, Roger Payne.
