Mr. Higgins was perhaps one of the most well - known and well - liked personalities in Onawa. During his long residence here he had during his work with the city become acquainted; with every household in the community and through his pleasant and accommodating ways had accumulated many friends, who will greatly miss his gentle and gracious presence. His patience and unwillingness to complain during his long illness made him a pleasant companion to his many friends who visited him when he was unable to leave his home. It was only fitting that he should be carried to rest by those with whom he worked for many years.

Julius G. Higgins was born at Aliens Grove, Scott county, Iowa on June 5, 1864 and passed away on Friday, August 11, 1944, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 6 days. On Dec. 21, 1892, Mr. Higgins married Gae Everett of Castana, Iowa and to this home three sons were born. One son died as a child and two grew to manhood. They are Bernard E. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Higgins commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1942. In February 1916, Mr. Higgins moved to Onawa, Iowa and has worked for the city of Onawa for 27 years.

Surviving are his wife, two sons; 3 grandsons; one adopted granddaughter; one great granddaughter; two sisters, one brother and a number of nephews and nieces.

Two of his grandsons are in the Army Air Corps but were unable to be present for the services on Monday. He has served this local church faithfully and well in many capacities and for 16 years, 1918 to 1934 was superintendent of the Sunday School. He was one of the most dependable members this Methodist church has ever had and was regular in attendance at the services.
