Diane “Danny” Kay Owens, 74, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at her residence in Soldier, Iowa, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Per Danny’s wishes, cremation has occurred and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Diane Kay Owens was born April 25, 1945 in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Darrell Willard and Joyce Audrey (Clemon) Owens. She grew up in Soldier, Iowa, and graduated from East Monona High School in Moorhead, Iowa with the class of 1963.
For several years Danny was a teller at the Community Bank branches in Soldier and Dunlap, Iowa.
Danny went back to school and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She taught at the Whiting Community Schools, Whiting, Iowa, as an Early Reading Interventionist for several years in their elementary. While teaching at Whiting, she also served as the elementary TAG Coordinator until her retirement.
Danny enjoyed reading, crafting, baking, and was especially famous for her pies.
She was very active in her community with the Soldier Public Library, and the Soldier Community Club, where she helped plan and coordinate Soldier’s 125th Celebration.
Danny was a member of the Soldier American Legion Auxiliary and served as a past officer.
Survivors include her significant other, James “Jim” Lintin of Soldier, Iowa; daughter, Ivy (Perry Rasmussen) Nielsen of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Max Rasmussen of Iowa City, Iowa and Oscar Rasmussen of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Nancy (Dean) Skokan of Hooper, Nebraska and Susan Knecht of Dakota City, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Joyce (Clemon) Owens.
