Harold “Mac” McCord, 79, Sloan, Iowa died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting, Iowa.

Mac was born February 12, 1923 at Whiting, Iowa, the son of Roy and Pearl (Willett) McCord. He graduated from Sloan High School in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps December 10, 1942 and service during WWII. He was discharged November 17, 1945 and later served during the Korean Conflict December 14, 1950 until his discharge January 21, 1952.

He was a dispatcher at Iowa Public Service Company, now Mid American Energy, until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Sioux City; three sisters, Betty Zamora of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Helen Martin of Boulder, Colorado and Mary Smith of Rogers, Arizona; a brother, Lee Roy McCord of Nashua, New Hampshire and numerous nieces and nephews, Linda Nordstrom and Mike Mareau.

Preceding him in death was his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Clay and Lucy Schuller and a brother, John

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2003 at First Christian Church in Sloan with Pastor Kody Killian officiating. Bonnie Ray, organist provided organ solos, “How Great Thou Art” and “Whispering Hope.” Burial was in Sloan City Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan. Visitation was 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church at Sloan.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at Onawa.

Casket bearers were Richard Brenden, Michael Brenden, Ryan Mareau, Richard Heck, Wilbur “Bud” Ray and L.T. “Gus” Watson.
