Holstein, Iowa Died Onawa

Connie L. Henningsen, 79, of Holstein, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at the Elmwood Care Centre of Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating. Burial will be at the Morgan Township Cemetery of Schleswig, Iowa. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Connie Lou Henningsen was born on June 10, 1940, in Manilla, Iowa, to Howard and Ella (Pruel) Halterman.

She was united in marriage to Gene Henningsen on Sept. 27, 1959. To this union four children were born, Kay, Shannon, Cindy and Darin.

Connie enjoyed being a farm wife and homemaker for her family until 1985, when she and Gene owned and ran a gas station and tire store in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Connie worked for Gomaco from 1989 to 1992 until they bought Johns Sales in Holstein, where she and Gene worked until retirement in 2001. Connie moved to Onawa near her daughters in 2016.

Connie enjoyed bowling, playing cards, quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Iowa Bowling Association. Connie will be remembered for always being a jokester to everyone she met.

She is survived by her children, Kay and Les Sorenson of Onawa, Shannon and Barbara Henningsen of Ida Grove, Iowa, Cindy and Ron Hausman of Onawa, and Darin and Esther Henningsen of La Vernia, Texas; grandchildren, Matt Sorensen and special friend Lacey Williams of Wayne, Neb., Shilby Henningsen of Ida Grove, Bree Henningsen of Ida Grove, Ryan Henningsen of Battle Creek, Iowa, Nate and Ashley Hausman of Onawa, Kayla Hausman of Onawa, Mina and Steve Schaerer of Las Vegas, Nev., Scotty and Sarah Rife of La Vernia, and Tony Sund of La Vernia; and great-grandchildren, Lorelai and Maggie Sorenson, Alexia Schaerer, Calab and Joshua Rife, Allie Hausman and Jasmine Shannon. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Koester of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother, Delos and Mary Halterman of Elgin, S.C.; sister-in-law, Marlene and Loren Lee of Schleswig, Iowa; brother-in-law, David and Cathy Henningsen of Ida Grove; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Halterman and Walt and Ella Steckelberg; husband, Gene; grandson, Joshua Sorenson; parents-in-law, Raymond and Esther Henningsen; sister, Jolene Ricketts; sisters-in-law, Shirley Henningsen and Florence Kepford; brother-in-law, Dwight Kepford; and nephew, Andrew Lingle.
