16 October 2019Larry G. Coney, 78, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at his home.
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa, with Pastor Craig Bock officiating. Burial will follow in Pilger Cemetery in Pilger, Nebraska. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Larry Gene was born on January 29, 1941, in Pilger, Nebraska, to Charles Edward and Tillie Dorothy (Carlson) Coney. He graduated from Pilger High School and then from Wayne State College, where he was inducted into its basketball hall of fame.
Larry married Jearleen Conard in Burt, Iowa.
He taught at Westwood Community Schools in Sloan, Iowa, for many years, in addition to coaching basketball, track, and softball.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid outdoorsman, particularly enjoying hunting, fishing, and walking at Blue Lake near Onawa. He was a member of Skien Lutheran Church in Albaton, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Jearleen Coney of Onawa, IA; two daughters and their spouses, Nadine and Danny Hopper of Memphis, TN and Royalee and Jamie Kirby of San Diego, CA; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
