Obituary for Debra "Deb" Meyer

Deb J. Meyer, age 65, of Salix, Iowa, (formerly of Schleswig) passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Mercy One Siouxland Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Jena Finch - Manchester will preside. Visitation will be held one-hour prior from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Debra Jean Meyer was born on September 5, 1953 to John and Arlene (Fayers) Aaby. She was raised in Ute, IA, where she attended Charter Oak-Ute High School.

Deb met her soulmate Michael “Mike” D. Meyer at 16 years old. The two were united in marriage November 14, 1969, nearly 50 years. From this unity they had two sons, Chris and Nick. In the early years of their marriage Deb was a devoted homemaker and mother, caring for her sons.

Deb furthered her education and graduated from Buena Vista College in 1990 with a Bachelors of Arts in Accounting. She went on to become an educator at Western Iowa Tech Community College and Buena Vista College. After teaching, she furthered her career with Apple approving websites for educational use for children. She later founded Meyer Tax & Accounting in Schleswig, IA, which she ran until 2010.

Deb was a natural in the kitchen. She loved creating unique dishes & desserts and took great pride in preparing meals for family and friends. Throughout her life she achieved the title of “Master Gardener”, a passion which she shared with her husband Mike. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, making quilts and crocheting. Deb deeply loved animals, which she considered members of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Mike Meyer of Salix, IA; Chris Meyer of Roseville, MN; Nick Meyer and his wife Stacie, and grandchildren of West Des Moines, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Arlene Aaby.
