January 2, 1937 ~ September 3, 2019 (age 82)

Burdette P. Madsen, 82, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ingemann Cemetery, rural Moorhead, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 9, 2019 at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Burdette Parnell Madsen was born January 2, 1937 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Magnus “Max” and Genevieve ( Rounsborg ) Madsen. He graduated from Castana High School with the class of 1956.

Burdette was united in marriage to Jeanette Ferguson on March 11, 1961 in Decatur, NE. Four children were born to this union: Keith, Kenneth, Karla, and Kevin.

Burdette was a lifelong farmer in the Monona County area. He loved working at the farm and the beauty of the land. He enjoyed socializing with his friends at coffee.

Burdette was a member of the Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana, Iowa.

Survivors include his children, Keith (and friend Susie Madsen of Onawa) Madsen of Turin, Iowa, Kenneth (Patricia Lazo) Madsen of Newark, Ohio, Karla (Chris) Collison of Onawa, Iowa, and Kevin (Lindsay) Madsen of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Seve Madsen, Alexis Madsen, Hayley Madsen, Braden Collison, Brett Collison, Cameron Madsen, and Morgan Madsen; one brother, Charles (Peggy) Madsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three sisters, Jane Heck of Onawa, Iowa, Virginia VanNess of Moorhead, Iowa, and Joann (Dick) Thoreson of Sioux City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Genevieve ( Rounsborg ) Madsen; three brothers, Curt Madsen, Page Madsen, and Frank Madsen; one infant sister, Mary Ann ; two brothers-in-law, Robert Heck and Darrell VanNess; one sister-in-law, Jeannie Madsen; and his special friend, Cheryl Johnson.
