Came To Onawa In 1882 And Has since Made His Home Here Most Of The Time
Funeral services were held at the Brown Funeral Chapel Sunday Afternoon with Rev. Batho Officiating. Burial was in Onawa.

Lizza Powell Dean was born in Batholomew County, Indiana June 8, 1852 and was reared by Methodist parents and grew to manhood in that County.

He attended the Hartsville, Indiana University, until called home because of his fathers last illness, after which he remained home and managed the farm for his mother after 3 years they sold out and he with his mother, brothers and sisters migrated settling in Phelps County, Nebraska. Four years later the family went back to Indiana and Mr. Dean went to Friend, Nebraska where he engaged in the retail coal business. From there he went to Wilbur, Nebraska and while there met for the first time, the women who on May 24, 1882 became his bride. They came to Onawa and obtained the marriage license from the clerk in the old frame courthouse and were married in the old frame Hotel Monona, Mr. Thurston then being proprietor. To this union were born 7 children, five of whom are now living, Roy of Onawa, Iowa, Mrs. J.F. Mustard of Onawa, Iowa, Willis of Valley City, North Dakota, Walter and Mrs. D.F. Wagner of Des Moines, Iowa.

He later settled at Crete, Nebraska and engaged in the hotel business and then moved to Colby, Kansas where he was city waterman and later on, City Marshall. During his residence in Colby he became affiliated with the Methodist Church, which was hos old home church from birth. In June 1901 he returned to Onawa and has made this place his home most of the time up until his death.

The above obit was prepared and written by the deceased some months ago and was handed to the Democrat editor by a son whom it was entrusted too.

Death came peacefully at 7:15 a.m. on Friday November 13. He was 79 years 5 months and 4 days old.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 15 at the Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Thos. Batho of the Onawa Methodist Church officiating.

Burial was made in the family lot in the Onawa Cemetery.
