Sherman Township Pioneer Dies

L.D. Hopkins Resident of Sherman Township Since 1866, Died Sunday Afternoon

Funeral Services were Held At The Catholic Church in Blencoe Tuesday Morning, With Father Gearen Saying Mass. Burial In Blencoe Cemetery.

Lorenzo D. Hopkins, one of the real pioneers of Sherman Township passed away Sunday afternoon at the Deering Hospital in Onawa following a ten-day illness at the time of his death he was 80 years 4 months and 28 days old.

Mr. Hopkins was born at Bridgeport, Iowa, June 17, 1851, the sixth child of William and Merian Hopkins . On Christmas eve in 1866 he moved to Sherman Township with his parents, brothers and sisters and resided in the township ever since. He retired from active farming about 12 years ago and moved to Blencoe.

In 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Lemieux. Besides the widow he is survived by 4 children, Lorenzo Jr., William Marian, and Agnes, 2 brothers, Frank and James of Blencoe.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Catholic Church in Blencoe in charge of Rev. Father P.C. Gaeren.
