Blencoe Mother Passes Away

Mary Lillian McKenney, daughter of Steward and Recella McKenney was born at Independence, Iowa, September 15, 1869 and passed away at her home south of Onawa, Wednesday, October 21, 1931 at the age of 62-1-6.

She was united in marriage to James Arthur Hopkins at Pueblo, Colorado, December 30, 1885.

To this union 7 children were born, all whom survive her.

She lived the early part of her married life at Wallace, Nebraska coming to Iowa in the year 1897 And has since lived in the vicinity of Blencoe where she raised her family and saw many of the hardships of pioneer life. She had a simple truthful faith. For the past 30 years she has had poor health being a patient sufferer always working a never complaining and has surely earned her reward.

In early life she was united with the Christian Church and has always lived a true Christian life.

She leaves to mourn here death her husband James Hopkins, 2 sons, Earl of Onawa and Arthur of Missouri Valley, five daughters, Emma Martin of Jackson, Nebraska, Alice Hickmann of Modale, Iowa, Maude Henry of Blencoe, Iowa, Hazel Hime of Ronneby, Minnesota and Marian Wickland of Whiting, Iowa. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Blencoe Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Geo. Croker of Whiting, assisted by Rev. Dudley. Burial was at Onawa. The Barnard Funeral Home had the funeral in charge.
