Obituary in the Onawa Democrat: C. A. O'Connor died February 8. Had been a citizen of this town for the past 75 years - leaves wife to mourn death. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm with Rev. C. Bathe conducting. Charles Albert O'Connor passed away at the Onawa Hospital on Wednesday morning, February 8, 1939 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 18 days, after an illness extending over several days. He was the son of Frank and Anna Bradley O'Connor and was born March 19, 1861 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. He came with his parents to this vicinity from Cedar Falls when a child of two years of age and had made this place his home continously for 75 years. The early part of his life was spent in Onawa, where for many years he was the owner of Onawa's Dray Line, after operating this business for a long number of years he started farming and continued in that line of endeavor until about ten years ago when he retired from active farm life and moved back into Onawa to make his home. Mr. O'Connor marks the passing of another one of our pioneer men. He was of a kind and loving disposition and made hundreds of friends for himself during his life here on earth. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie M. Daily at Vermillion, SD on September 28th, 1885. No children were born to this union, but the home was made bright by the adoption of three children who since have grown to womanhood and manhood and made homes for themselves. They are Mrs. Chester Fors and Mrs. Ralph Jones of Onawa and Percy Perry, who now resides in California, who are left with the widow to mourn the loss of this kind and loving husband and father. He is also survived by one brother, George O'Connor and one sister, Mrs. Lou Riggs of Walthill, Neb., besides a number of relatives. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in this city Friday afternoon at 2:00 with Rev. C. Bathe officiating. The funeral will be conducted by the Barnard Funeral Home and burial will be made in the Onawa cemetery.
