John Wayne Siemonsma was born June 14, 1938 in rural Hartford, South Dakota, to Elmer and Florence (Honrath) Siemonsma. He passed away Monday, March 9,2009, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 70 years.

John served in the US Army. On August 6,1965, he married Joan (Farrens) Dye at Winfred, South Dakota.

John was a devoted truck driver. He drove coast to coast for many years. He served as the Decatur policeman in the early 1970s. He sold agricultural products to area farmers and worked part time as a hired hand.

John enjoyed visiting his family and friends. Traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening and reading were his favorite pastimes. One of his greatest loves was "pestering" his granddaughters and taking them on trips to South Dakota.

Preceded by parents, Elmer & Florence (Honrath) Siemonsma; 3 brothers: Bob, Charles and Willie; grandson: Brent Dye; brothers-in-law: Wilbur (Alice Don) Farrens, Harlan (Hazel) Farrens.

Survived by wife: Joan; sons David (Renee) Dye, Steve (Debbie) Dye all of Decatur; 6 brothers: Jerry (Marilyn), Jim (Marcene), all of Hartford, SD, Steve (Linda), Tea, SD, Vince (Diane), Humbolt, SD, Don (Vicki), Pat all of Sioux Falls, SD; 5 sisters: Mary (Al) Tennessen, Theresa (Bob) Hay all of Sioux Falls, SD, Jean (Walter) Baustian, Jr. Luverne, MN, Bernice (Harry) Blomgren Beaver Creek, MN, Joan (Randy) Comer, Indianapolis, IN; 3 sister-in-laws: Kay (Mrs. Bob) Siemonsma, Keystone, SD, Natalee (Mrs. Charles) Siemonsma, Hartford, SD, Marilyn (Mrs. Willie) Siemonsma, Lyons, SD; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz officiated. Special Music was by Dot Connealy. Honorary Casket Bearers were his Friends in attendance. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur with Military Honors by VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No. 6926 and American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215. There was no visitation held.
