SIOUX CITY -- Kenneth R. Lounsbury, 89, of Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Smithland United Methodist Church in Smithland. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, with Pastor Karen Handke officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa.

Kenneth R. Lounsbury, son of William and Claire (Williams) Lounsbury, was born Nov. 6, 1919, on a farm east of Sioux City. He attended country school in Woodbury County.

On April 23, 1954, Kenneth was united in marriage to Joyce E. Gill in Elk Point, S.D. To this union four children were born, John, Raymond, Karen and LeaAnn.

Kenneth was a farmer and carpenter. He farmed near Sioux City for 40 years and was a union carpenter and union asbestos worker. For several years, he served as town constable for Concorde Township.

The family made their home in the Sioux City area for several years before moving to Rodney, Iowa. In recent years, Kenneth made his home in Mapleton.

Kenneth enjoyed fishing, hunting and his rose garden. Many people will remember him for the watermelons he raised.

Survivors include his children, LeaAnn Lounsbury of Lake City, Iowa, Karen Jones and husband, Robert of Greenville, Mich., and John Lounsbury and wife, Maria of South Sioux City; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce on June 11, 1994; a son, Raymond in 2001; a brother, Wilmer; and a sister, Helen.
