COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Shirley M. Koenigs, 82, of Council Bluffs passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 517 So. 32nd St., Council Bluffs, with Pastor Aaron Simons officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a lunch following at the church. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs.

Shirley was born May 17, 1926, in Mapleton, Iowa, to the late Racy and Lillian (Muckey) Zediker. She attended Mapleton High School and married Leonard Koenigs on April 27, 1946, in Marion, Ind. To this union three children were born.

Shirley was a homemaker. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was active in various church functions and was also a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She was a ceramics teacher, watercolor artist and china painter.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Beverley Steward and husband, Pete of Omaha; sons, Leonard Koenigs and wife, Eva of Houston, Texas, and Timothy Koenigs and wife, Tara of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, Kendra Fuller, John Koenigs, Becky Pfenning, Paige Riley, Craig Koenigs and Brian Koenigs; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Smith of Onawa, Iowa, and Harriett Nielsen and husband, Chris of Ida Grove, Iowa; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Koenigs in 1993; a sister, Delberta Hart; and brothers, Maurice, John and Jim Zediker.

Memorials to Westminster Presbyterian Church are preferred.
