The following notice is published by request from the Issue of the Press of June 5, 1884.

DIED.—In Cooper township on Saturday evening, May 24, Mrs. Samuel Heisler, aged 39 years.

The disease from which she died was pneumonia, and originated from an attack of measles. On the 21st of March, Mrs. Heisler gave birth to a son, and on Saturday, April 19th, her oldest daughter paid them a visit. The next day the rash which precedes the coming of measles made its appearance on her face. Mrs. Heisler caught the measles from her daughter, and shortly after her baby was similarly afflicted, on the 7th of May the baby died. The loss of her child and the attack of measles, which developed into pneumonia, were the cause of Mrs. Heisler’s death on the 24th of May, after an illness of four weeks. The deceased lady left behind her sorrowing husband and six children, three of whom have reached maturity.

Mrs. Heisler was born in Sandusky county, Ohio. When two years old her parents emigrated to Whitney county, Indiana, where her father died. Still pursuing on westward, her mother moved to the western part of Indiana, in 1851; in 1855 they moved to Monona county and in 1860 she was married to Samuel Heisler, her maiden name being Mary Merrill. Mr. Heisler and his wife’s family were pioneer settlers of the Maple valley, there being but few people here when they arrived.

Mrs. Heisler was widely known to the people of Mapleton and vicinity and her death was the occasion of a general outpouring of sympathy from those who knew her best. She joined the Baptist society of Mapleton about thirteen years ago, and her life as a consistent follower of the meek and lowly Jesus is an example for others, while her many virtues endeared her to all with whom she came in contact.
