Edna Gertrude (Gray) Benson, 88, South Sioux City, Nebraska, formerly of Onawa, Iowa died Friday, February 16, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with her grandson, Rev. David Serart officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Sam Serart of Dyersburg, TN, Ardith and Tom Cox of Moorhead, Sharon and Kurt Blankemeyer of South Sioux City, NE, Vickie and Gary Johnson of Omaha, NE and Debra and Bob Armburst of Omaha, NE; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, four sisters, Vernice Wolfe of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruth Brown of Council Bluffs, Jean Christensen of Lajunta, CO. and Dona Davis of Turin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna Gertrude (Gray) Benson, 88, South Sioux City. Nebraska, formerly of Onawa, Iowa died Friday, February 16, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital.

Edna Gertrude was born June 24, 1918 on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Adam Rufus and Gertrude Florence (Blowers) Gray. She attended country school in rural Turin, Iowa and graduated from Onawa High School She received a teaching certificate at a normal training school in Council Bluffs, Iowa and taught country school between Turin and Moorhead, Iowa.

Edna married Lloyd William Benson November 20, 1937. They farmed in Nebraska and also the Onawa area They were avid dancers and also loved playing cards, eating out and spending time with their family. In 1966, they moved outside of South Sioux City. NE. Lloyd died July 1995.

Edna loved being with her family and they also loved being with her. She and her grandchildren shared a special "love of Grandma".

Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Sam Seratt of Dyersburg, TN, Ardith and Tom Cox of Moorhead, Sharon and Kurt Blankemeyer of South Sioux City, Vickie and Gary Johnson of Omaha, NE and Debra and Bob Armburst of Omaha, NE; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Vernice Wolfe of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruth Brown of Council Bluffs, Jean Christensen of LaJunta, CO and Dona Davis of Turin and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lonnie and 4 sisters.

Funeral services were 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa Iowa with her grandson, Rev. David Seratt officiating. Music selections were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden". Burial was in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation was 5:00 - 8:00 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Casket bearers were Tim Cox, Mark Flint, Jon Armburst, Joel Johnson, Nate Armburst and David Larrick. Honorary bearers were Bryce Flint, Scott Blankemeyer and Adam Holmes.
