Art was born December 27, 1950 in Ainsworth, Nebraska, and grew up on farms near Arthur and Danbury. He graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1969, where he and Pam were high school sweethearts. After graduating in 1973 from Iowa State with a B.S in Animal Science, he returned home to farm with his family for four years. He married Pam Walter in Mapleton on May 26, 1973, and they lived as best friends and lovers for 31 years.

Art was a leader in his own profession. He had extensive experience in both commodity and options analysis and trading Art's achievements at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where he worked since 1977, included playing a key role in the rewriting of live hog contracts and contributing to the development of agriculture options as a member of original Live Hog Option Committee, which wrote contract specifications. He also assisted in installing the certificate of delivery system in the live cattle contract as a member of the Live Cattle Committee and Pork Product and Floor Practices Committees.

Beyond the workplace, Art cultivated an array of interests, all of which he joyfully shared with his family and friends. He had a deep love of nature and outdoor sports. He studied wildlife, geology and natural history. And or course, he loved fishing.

Art's greatest passion was his family. He was forever closely involved in the lives of his daughters. He provided constant support for Pam's career as an artist. He loved coaching his daughter's softball teams and always reinforced their interests in sports, art, and academics.

One of Art's distinguishing characteristics was exhibited in his wide range of cherished friends and acquaintances-among them farmers, artists, commodity traders, journalists, academics, and many others. He also would befriend any owner of a bait shop.

Art is survived by his wife and best friend, Pamela, and daughters Con of Wilmette and Lindsey of Lynbrook New York, parents Fred and Elfriede Paulsrud of Danbury, Iowa a sister, Margarete and husband, Mickey Sauser of Anthon two brothers, Ted and wife, DeeAnn and Robert and wife Teresa, all of Danbury along with many nieces and nephews.
