Phyllis M. Mesenbrink, 86, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery near Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 28, 2019, at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Phyllis Maxine was born on October 13, 1932, in Onawa, Iowa, to Charles and Alma (Hansen) Rowland. She graduated from Onawa High School.

Phyllis and DeWayne Mesenbrink were united in marriage on June 7, 1952, at the First Christian Church in Onawa. Seven children were born to this union, Barbara, Darrell, Debbie, Dennis, Joann, Kevin, and Jack.

She worked as a waitress in various Onawa restaurants for several years.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, playing cards, and camping. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.

Survivors include her children, Barbara Blake of Mapleton, IA, Denise Mesenbrink of Onawa, IA, Debbie Neubaum of Mapleton, IA, Dennis (Carol) Mesenbrink of Council Bluffs, IA, Joann (Mitch) Gibler of Onawa, IA, Kevin (Carlann) Mesenbrink of Onawa, IA, and Jack (Carla) Mesenbrink of Mapleton, IA; grandchildren, Bob (Teresa) Blake, Chris (Shari) Blake, Jeremy (Christa) Blake, Brandi (Michael) Youngkin, Krystal (fiancé Drew) Mesenbrink, Aron (Steph Petersen) Neubaum, Ryan (Brenda) Neubaum, Ashley (Travis) Gulick, Heather (Shane) Heywood, Jennifer (Jeremy) Probasco, Patricia (Robert Maule) Gibler, Katie (Jake) Henneman, Alysha (Dustin Landon) Mesenbrink, Jordyn Mesenbrink, Brady Mesenbrink, Samantha (Brent) Sadler, and Michael Mesenbrink; forty great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Robert Rowland of Glenwood Springs, CO; brothers-in-law, Wayne Burgess of Onawa, IA and Raymond Fletcher of Onawa, IA; and sisters-in-law, Bev Rowland of Sterling, CO, Shirley Ingram of Onawa, IA, and Marlene Mesenbrink of Aurora, CO.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, DeWayne Mesenbrink; son, Darrell Mesenbrink; sons-in-law, Richard Blake and Jerry Neubaum; parents, Charles and Alma Rowland; brothers, Norman, Richard, Edward, Charles “Fat,” and Jessie Rowland; and sisters, Ella Mae “Happy,” Maryann, Violet, Jane, Minnie, and Shirl.
