Joseph Ernst Is Buried Tuesday

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in St. Mary's church for Joseph Ernst, a 67-year-old lifetime resident and retired farmer of Mapleton who died Sunday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Earl Means near Mapleton, following a stroke suffered a week ago. He had been in failing health the last year.

Rev McQuire, pastor of the Catholic church at Clare, Iowa officiated Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery near Mapleton under the direction of the Olerich Funeral home.

Pallbearers were 6 nephews; Jess Ernst and Ray Ernst of Moville. Leonard Harris of Mapleton Don Banta of Anthon and Pete and Frank Reinhold of Sioux City

Son of Alois and Barbara Uhl Ernst, he was born July 21, 1878, in Mapleton. He was married in November. 1901, to Miss. Minnie Thomas in Mapleton. He resided on farms near here until about 2 years ago when he retired and moved to his home on South 3rd street in Mapleton.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Earl (Alma) Means and Mrs. Roy (Helen) Zediker of Mapleton and Mrs. Fritz (Lenora) Moss of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; 3 brothers, Jake Ernst of Creighton, Neb., T G. Ernst or Moville and H.P. Ernst of Sioux City, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Edna Banta of Anthon Mrs. Ella Harris of Kansas and Mrs. Lizzie Butler of Alhambra, Calif.

His wife preceded him in death 23 years ago. Two daughters also preceded him in death.

Among out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were H. P Ernst, Mrs. Frank Daniels, Mrs. Harold Allen, Pete Frame, Frank Reinbold, Miss Luella Ernst and Mrs. Claude Dale of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Ernst and family of Moville, Mr. and Mrs. Tine Banta of Anthon, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Banta of Galva, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Banta of Odebolt, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Ernst or Creighton. Nebraska. Mrs. Ella Harris or Kansas, Matt Thomas and family of Sloan, Mrs., Fritz C. Moss of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Francis Scott, and son of Kingsley, Mrs. Edith Musser of Lohrville, IL, and Mr. and Mrs. Isadora Brenner and family of Danbury.
