ONAWA, Iowa -- Arthur Jones, 83, of Onawa died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Rush Family Care Chapel in Onawa with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army.

Arthur was born Nov. 28, 1922, at Red River County, Texas, the son of Verner and Bell Jones. He married Ruth Alma Heath and to this union three children were born.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for three years. During this time he was in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign in World War II. After his discharge, he worked in civil service for 30 years in Colorado, Washington, California and again in Colorado.

Arthur married Bonnie Anderson on May 24, 1980, in Colorado and the couple moved to Onawa. Bonnie died March 27, 2005.

He enjoyed gardening, carpenter work and always took pleasure in helping others. He and Bonnie enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Hovat of Longmont, Colo.; two sons and their wives, Frank and Kathy Jones and Ralph and Jackie Jones, all of Pueblo, Colo.; two stepchildren and their spouses, Larry and Chris Anderson and Linda and Ben English, all of Onawa; two sisters, Pat and her husband, Joe Stone, of Dallas, Texas, and Nell Gibson of Whyle, Texas; a brother and his wife, Tex and Harriet Jones of Wagner, S.C.; grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and his wife, Paul and Florence Jones; and a brother-in-law, Leo Gibson.
