SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Viola Helena Christianson, 80, of Smithland died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, where she had resided for the past two and one half years.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Catholic Life Church in Oto, Iowa, with Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Cemetery, Smithland. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Willman Funeral Chapel in Rodney, Iowa.

Viola was born July 20, 1924, in Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mithilda Frimml. She married Clarence Christianson on April 19, 1969, in Newton, Iowa.

She always enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Lynn A. and Falyn Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Diana and Larry Weems of Vinton, Iowa, and Cindy and Terry Carson of Fairfax, Iowa; stepchildren, Richard, Larry, Robert and Albert Christianson, Betty Klinker, Roberta Nerison and Karen Booker; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard Schulte; her husband, Clarence Christianson on Feb. 2, 2002; five brothers, Lloyd, Gilbert, Everitt, Clem and Arlo Frimml; and two sisters, Mildred Loher and Arlene Brecht.
