Larry Gene Kluver, age 76, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the Holy Spirit Retirement Community of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa, with Military Rites conducted by the Loren Hollister Post No. 496 of the American Legion of Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018, at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Larry Gene Kluver, the son of Marvin “Mike” A. and Geraldine L. (Ewoldt) Kluver, was born on November 12, 1942, in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized May 24, 1957 and confirmed in his faith on January 5, 1958 in the St. Peter’s Church of Mapleton, Iowa. Larry grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Mapleton Community High School with the class of 1960.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force on January 22, 1963 and honorably served his country and later was discharged as an Airman First Class on January 20, 1967. Larry served in the reserves until January 21, 1969.

Larry married the love of his life, Alice K. Sanford on September 9, 1967, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Larry and Alice lived their entire married life in Mapleton and were blessed with five children Catherine, Carol, Cheryl, Carla, Michael.

Larry was employed at Farmland Foods for 43 years before retiring in February of 2005. Larry was an avid collector of fishing rods and reels. He enjoyed fishing & hunting with his children and grandchildren and camping with his family. Larry loved a good game of cards. Family was Larry’s first priority and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Cathy (Eric) Diedrich of Radcliffe, Iowa, Carol (Len) Barker of Sioux City, Iowa, Cheryl (Ray) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carla (Michael) Kramper of McCook Lake, South Dakota, Michael (Monica) Kluver of Mapleton, Iowa; 13 grandchildren Ashley, Amanda, Melinda, Brittany, Andrew, Gunner, Alyssa, Kelsey, Kayla, Brayton, Jameson, Jersey, and Jaylee; 5 great grandchildren David, Benjamin, Austin, Addalyn, Kamberlie; brothers-in-law Jerry (Rosie) Sanford of Sioux City, Iowa and Larry (Tammy) Sanford of Bronson, Iowa; sisters-in-law Ruth Hintz of Boise, Idaho, Sharon Sanford of Las Vegas, Nevada; extended family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & LaVonne Kluver; wife Alice Kluver; parents-in-law Tom & Elsie Sanford; brothers-in-law Robert Sanford and Tom Sanford.
