19 December 2018Ron “Smiley” Anderson, 68, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at his home.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, led by Jack Gibler. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 17, 2018, at the Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Ron, who also was known as “Smiley,” was born on July 10, 1950, in Onawa, and raised by his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Bertha Hutcheson. He graduated from West Monona High School in 1968. Following graduation, he worked for Irving F. Jensen Construction as a heavy machine operator, as well as for other companies in the Onawa area. Along with that, he owned and operated Smiley’s Bar in Onawa from 1978 – 1986.
He married Becky Miller on November 25, 1972, in Onawa. To this union one daughter, Kara, was born.
Smiley enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening, and visiting with friends and family. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Onawa.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Becky Anderson of Onawa, IA; his daughter and her husband, Kara and Bruce Johnson of Onawa, IA; one granddaughter, Peyton Johnson of Onawa, IA; two half-siblings and their spouses, David and Carla Moore of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Kathy and Jerry Smith of Kirkville, MO; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Wayne and Bertha Hutcheson; his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Jerry Moore; and his faithful canine companion, Chauncey.
