Roger Gene Hall of Onawa, Iowa, peacefully passed away at the age of 80 on August 20, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer and brain tumors. His infectious smile will be missed, but he will be remembered for his loving personality.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 24, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Onawa, with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Roger was born to William J. and Frances M. (Fuhrman) Hall on February 12, 1938, in Onawa, Iowa.

After graduating from Castana High School in 1957, Roger joined the United States Navy. He was stationed on the AO-58 Manatee from 1957 to 1962.

Before a deployment, he married Margaret Ann (Wright) Hall on July 7, 1958, at the First Christian Church in Onawa. The lucky couple celebrated their 60th anniversary with a true wedding reception this summer.

After his years of service in the Navy, they moved back to Iowa to start their family. In 1963, they welcomed their first son, Scott. Then in 1969, they were blessed with their second son, Corey.

Along with raising kids, Roger worked for Low Implement in Onawa for twenty-five years. After retiring from Low’s, he spent thirteen years mowing for the City of Onawa, and five years plowing snow for the State of Iowa.

In his free time, he loved dancing to country western music and fishing. Then once he retired, Roger and Margaret started traveling the country and stopping at casinos along the way to get a cup of coffee. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.

In July of 2017, Roger was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer with inoperable brain tumors. The day he received the news, he promised his wife, Marge, one more year so they could celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. With the grace of God, he kept his promise and he, with a little assistance, even spun her around the dance floor one last time.

Roger’s legacy lives on through his wife, Margaret Hall of Onawa, IA; sons, Scott (Sharon) Hall of Lovell, WY and Corey Hall of Onawa, IA; granddaughters, Laura (Ryan) Ernst of Schleswig, IA and Natalie and Nicole Hall of Lovell, WY; great-granddaughters, Haley and Whitney Ernst of Schleswig, IA; brother, Ellsworth (Deb) Hall of Arvada, CO; sister, Marilyn Satterwhite of Lewisville, TX; sister-in-law, Kathi Tweet of Mapleton, IA; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Ronnie Hall; and brothers-in-law, Roy Satterwhite, Jim Wright, Don Wright Sr, Cork Wright, Albert Wright, and Pete Wright; and nephew-in-law, Kenny Wright.

We as a family want to extend our gratitude for all those who have supported us in person and in prayer through this difficult journey.
