Donald Raymond Mankenberg, 79, Don “Boom” passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona. Born on June 13, 1938 in Onawa, Iowa to Clifford and Sally (Selma Letterly) Mankenberg, Don attended Onawa schools graduated from Onawa High in 1957. His undergraduate studies were interrupted while he served in the United States Marine Corp. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. His Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees were obtained from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

He married Christy Mathiasen on December 22, 1960. Together they had two daughters; Sue and Ann. The couple moved to the suburbs of Denver, Colorado in 1968. They later divorced. Don began his career with the Community College of Denver system working his way up in Administration. In 1986, he retired as Interim President of Front Range Community College, in Westminster, Colorado.

Don relocated to Florence, Oregon in 1986 where he met and later married Maisie (Giles) in December 1991. Together they enjoyed a life of laughter, camping, traveling, fishing, dancing and numerous friends.

They moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2004 after spending their winters there. An avid fisherman, Don spent many hours out on the lakes and rivers of Oregon and Arizona.

Survivors include his wife Maisie, children and step-children; Sue Humphrey (Craig) of Dallas, Texas, Ann Bassett (Tom) of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Kenon Neal of Chandler, Arizona, Stacey Scanlan (Darren) of Boise, Idaho, Jason Scanlan (Wendy) of Aurora, Oregon; eleven grandchildren. Sisters; Joyce Benningsdorf of Fort Collins, Colorado, Donna Buenz, of Jefferson City, Iowa, Carol Zortman (Gary) of Whiting, Iowa, Cherri Mankenberg (Linda) of Gilbert, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and grandson, both of whom died in infancy.
