Richard Glen Gries

Richard Glen Gries, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gries of Ute, was born near Charter Oak, June 6, 1895, and died of a heart attack at his home in Onawa, Monday, January 23, 1939, at the age of 43 years, 7 months and 17 days.

He spent the greater part of his life in Ute and vicinity. He enlisted in the U.S. army in December 1917 and received his honorable discharge in December 1918.

On September 15, 1919 he was married to Mae Powell. Eight children were born to this union, two dying in infancy.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Clifford, Leo, Wayne and Ralph; two daughters, Eileen and Rita Jean; three brothers, Roy of Vermilion, South Dakota, Leonard of Omaha, Nebraska, Floyd of Ute; four sisters, Mrs. Goldie Downing and Leona of Ute, Mrs. Sylvia Brandenburg of Central City, Nebraska and Mrs. Irene Giffin of Sioux City.

Mr. Gries became a member of the Ute Christian Church January 15, 1915.

Military funeral services were held at the Cheney Mortuary at Onawa, Wednesday afternoon, January 25, with the Onawa Legion Post in charge and Rev. O.G. Salveson officiating. Burial was made at St. Clair Cemetery at Ute.
