Mrs. Elsie J. Shoemaker was born July 28, 1887, at Brooklyn, Iowa and passed away from this life at Onawa as the result of a heart attack on Tuesday, September 27. 1960 at the age of 73 years 1 month and 29 days.

The early part of her life was spent in the Chelsea, Iowa community and prior coming to Onawa had made her home at Ireton, Iowa.

On January 4, 1910, she was united in marriage to Charles Soden. He died as a result of an accident in 1917. On July 28, 1934, she married William Shoemaker. He died January 10, 1942.

Survivors include a brother, George Smith of Onawa and a sister, Miss Hazel Smith of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a son, one sister, Mrs. Marie Watson and a brother, William Smith.

Funeral services were held at 1 pm Thursday, September 29th at the Pearson Funeral Home. Rev. C. E. Hanan officiated at the services. Miss Bonnie Rounds sang “Beautiful Isle of somewhere and “Abide with me” accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Kelley. The casket bearers were Herman Moltsau, Albert Stoll, Charles Jacobs, Pete Hanson, and Charles Dugdale. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, Iowa
